The Carmen Bajo Community Center is closely affiliated with a community church. They share staff and some families that the community center serves are also part of the church. On Saturday we were able to serve at the Carmen Bajo church with some of their regularly scheduled programming. They have kids ministry every Saturday morning and a teen service each Saturday afternoon.

Time with children is always a gift. They are full of creativity and ideas and quick to smile and laugh. Sarai on our team speaks Spanish, and what a gift she is! We also have 3 teenage interns that translate for us, Matias, Emma, and Josue. It’s wonderful having so many Spanish speakers, and those of us with less Spanish are frequently pulling one of them over to help us talk about a child’s Lego build, or give instructions to a group.

The afternoon teen time was a highlight as well. 40+ teens were at church on a Saturday afternoon. There was a guest worship leader who pulled Cara-Marie up on stage to sing one song that was in Spanish and English. He also had Daniel on the drums for that song. Dynamic Duo! Daniel brought he message with Josue translating for him. I don’t know if you have ever shared a message with a translator, but it is not easy. Daniel and Josue did an incredible job being funny and relatable and driving home one central point that did not get lost in translation. Flee evil, pursue righteousness.

“So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”
