The last days of our trip to Greece: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, were filled with prayers, songs, farewells, and travel.
The team woke up Friday at the beach in Kombi - our last day in this beautiful corner of God’s creation. As we packed and departed, God graciously provided 2 unexpected encounters.
Stephan was able to pray for Kostas and Kostas, the men who have this year leased the beach bar and apartments from Voula and Panagiotis. They were pleasantly surprised at the request and the prayer of blessing that Stephan left with them. We will continue to pray for those seeds of God’s Word and power and grace to be nurtured in their souls. We already looking forward to next year.
As we pulled out of town, we stopped by Anna’s bakery for a quick breakfast. We were surprised (but shouldn’t have been!) to meet one of the guys who worked at the beach bar, Joel. Several of us had been having conversations with him throughout the week. As we caught with him in the bakery, we stepped out into the street and asked if we could pray for him. What resulted can only be described as God ordained. He opened up about his plans and hopes and Anestis was able to pray for him in Greek. It was a beautiful moment. We continue to pray for future encounters with Joel and for the seeds of Gods Grace to grow in his soul as he travels and works to save for his future plans. We know that God holds our plans and our future.
Friday night, the team was back with all of Hellenic Ministries at the lovely Anthidona Estates hotel. We worshipped together and it was like a family reunion as we sang, laughed and shared stories. Because, well - it was a family reunion!
Saturday the team said our farewells and blessings to the Calhoun’s, Mylie, and Anestis and headed to Athens. Our hearts were full and our minds beginning to turn towards home.
Our Saturday in Athens was a joyful end to the trip as Cumberland 6 got to see the sites and enjoy some wonderful fellowship over meals in the shadow of the Parthenon. We continued to follow our mission as we looked for opportunities to pray for Austin (street vendor) and Vasilis (waiter) and others. The team also got to meet Marianne who owns the apartments in Athens that Cumberland teams have been staying at for a decade. She has been a good friend to our teams and her hospitality was wonderful once again. We continue to pray for Marianne as God provides opportunities for interactions that He will use our interactions to reveal Himself to her.
The team rested well and then headed out on a quiet Sunday morning to the airport. The city was restful and patient as we traveled. Our prayer is that we will rest in God’s promises and be patient in His timing as we pray for those we met and hope to meet again.
Let’s continue to lift up our brothers and sisters who are laboring for the Lord in Greece and for His strength to fill them.
