This morning, the rest of our team got to take DL0222 from Atlanta to Athens. The flight was generally on time and the travel was smooth overall. Upon arrival, we were reunited with Lori and Stephan and buckled up for a 4 hour drive. The reward for the long travel was a fabulous lunch and wonderful panoramic vistas at Meteora, the site of several monasteries and a nunnery, some of the structures dating back to the 1300s! You could see caves pocked throughout the mountains where monks have been seeking a monastic life since the 600s. After a couple more hours of driving we finally made it to Ioannina and got to meet Chase, the Hellenic Ministries site leader here as of Thursday. Now it’s time for some much needed sleep as we look forward to helping set up the ministry site for community outreach tomorrow and then hosting a neighborhood cookout.
